Reading: Kōwhiringa - What a Disaster

A few weeks ago some of our Kōwhiringa learners read a story the container ship Rena that went aground near Mount Maunganui in October 2011. The article described the impact of the event through the eyes of a young girl.

These learners further explored what happened that day and its effects it had on people, places and the environment. They then demonstrated what they had learnt, presenting as they saw fit.

Have a look at awesome work Madds and Skyla completed below.

  2. Hi Ella
Thanks for the comment. We think it would be a good idea to add sounds to the video. The ship was going to Tauranga.

  3. Hey Mads and Skyla,
What a cool way to share your learning. I loved reading all of the facts you had at the start. The little movie was great too. It made me think about how scary it must be to be a sailor on the ship. To make this even better I wondered if you had thought about using group and ungroup on explain everything to split the ship in half? Also adding some sound (like Ella suggested) would be great.
    Overall, fantastic effort.

  4. Hi madds and skyla maybe next time you guys should make your words more smaller so you can have only two pages. One for the movie and one for your facts. I like how you have a movie. Maybe you should make the movie bigger and colour in half the boat not a tiny bit
