Reading: Kōwhiringa Use your Imagination

This week some of our Kōwhiringa learners read about a girl called Clare who went on an adventure leaving the library.

The learners were challenged to create a map of her journey. They could do this any way they saw fit.

Reading: Kōwhiringa - Think of a Name

This week some of the learners in Kōwhiringa have chosen to learn about Puppies.

First they read the story Think of a Name - Which is about a boy who cannot decide what to call his dog.

The children then talked about the things needed when you get a puppy. The looked at other texts.

Finally they had to decide how to share their learning back to the rest of the group.

Matthew decided to create a quiz - This has been done on Explain Everything and then turned into a movie.

Reading: Road Safety

During Week 5 some learners in Kōtuku decided to learn about Road Safety. Mr Gibson set the challenge that they needed to take their learning and share it with Ruru.

This caused some challenges especially as some quickly remembered that they just couldn't give them pages and pages to read as that was boring.

Special thanks to the Ruru children for letting us share. We are looking forward to the next time we get to do this.

Whero & Parauri Reading: Growth Mindset

This week Whero and Parauri have been working on their Growth Mindset.

Parauri: How we learn about Space.

This week Parauri have been researching and learning about Space.

They have used different books and sites including videos.

Kees has worked extremely hard on building a Space Shuttle out of Lego at home.

Here is Kees 5 main facts that he has learned this week.

1. There is zero gravity in space.
2. In 1969 two astronauts landed on the moon.
3. The ISS (International Space Station) was put together in space.
4. Scientists in the ISS are learning how people can live without gravity.
5. Astronauts from different countries work in the ISS. 

Mā Reading: What names of baby animals do we know?

This week the Mā reading group made a Padlet of their prior knowledge of what were the different Baby Animal names. They did a Fantastic job and even got to Share their knowledge with Miss McCormick. Well Done Mā group
